Donor frequently asked questions

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Potentially. The Blue Valley Educational Foundation (BVEF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so all or a portion of your donation may be deductible depending on the benefit(s) that you or a family member receive as a result of your donation. We recommend that you consult with your tax advisor to determine the tax deductibility of your donation. You will receive an email receipt from BVEF immediately after you make your donation.

Is this a secure website?

DonateNow uses Paypal to conduct the commerce portion of the site. Paypal is an industry leader in web authentication and security.

Can I make a donation with a check or cash?

Yes, you may make a donation by check or cash by mail, to your teacher or by bringing it to the BVEF office at 15020 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas 66223. Please contact the BVEF Business Manager at (913) 239-4053 if you have any questions.

Are DonateNow grant proposals approved before they are posted online?

Prior to being posted on-line, all DonateNow grant proposals much be reviewed and approved by the applicant's principal or supervisor, the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services and the Executive Director of BVEF to insure that they support the district's mission and curriculum. Any proposal that requests funding for technology must also be reviewed and evaluated by the district's Executive Director of Information Technology Services.

How do I know that my donation was used for the project I chose?

The Blue Valley School District and BVEF monitor the expenditure of funds by teachers receiving grant funding through DonateNow. Each teacher is required to post an update on the BVEF web site after the project is funded. If the grant proposal does not receive full funding, BVEF may transfer funds to the teacher's principal for use in the teacher's school.

How do I know the results of the project I chose to fund?

All donors will receive a report from the teacher upon completion of the project that outlines how the project impacted students. However, the identity of donors is not disclosed to the teacher.

Why is 10% of funding allocated to the Blue Valley Educational Foundation endowment fund?

Because BVEF was established to support the needs of the entire Blue Valley School District, it has established a policy that a small portion of all donations received will be contributed to its endowment fund, which benefits all schools in the district.

What is the purpose of the 2% management fee?

This fee compensates BVEF for its work to support each proposal, including the approval process, website maintenance, follow up grant administration, and credit card fees.
